How We Decoded Love?

I met my special someone in a not so ideal circumstance. We had a blind date and watched the Da Vinci Code. It didn’t go well. Unlike the movie, we failed to decode each other. We went our separate ways, though we still met casually now and then with friends.

Years forward, a call for adventure brought us together, along with a friend. We went on a trip to Ilocos region. After Vigan, our friend decided not to join us in Laoag. On our first day there, we went looking for a specific tourist spot. We asked a lot of people and they have no idea where this mysterious and intriguing place is! We got tired walking around, so we took a rest in a plaza.

Right there, something happened. Oh yes, something happened. I will not divulge the details but to sum it up, it is something… dramatic. I dramatized. It was me, not her. It was real, so real that if filmed it could have been the best movie, ever!

That moment was the exact moment I’ve been waiting for. I am myself without being silenced, diverted or ignored. It’s like I was totally naked and she liked what she saw. Pun intended, haha. She intently listened. She clearly understood and warmly comforted me. It’s one of the very few instances that I’m at peace with myself and she was beside me.

That night, when we were already on our bed. No, we have a double bed, I mean there are two beds. I can’t sleep, I cannot believe, what happened. I was thinking, did I really cry in front of this woman? Seriously? After realizing it, I was so ashamed.

The next morning, I was still in denial. But deep inside me, I know she is the woman I can be comfortable with, she is the woman I can talk with for hours, she is the woman I can cry on.

You know the place we were looking and nobody knew where it is? We were actually able to find it, without us knowing we found it! It’s the plaza itself!

Love is like that. If one is trying too hard, you may not find it. But if you let destiny take its course, love comes along.

Steve Jobs said in his 2005 Stanford Commencement address:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path”.

At the time, we didn’t know why we chose to watch the Da Vinci Code, or why we wanted to visit the plaza. It just happened.

We were encrypted individuals before, but we are able to decode each other, in a place we accidentally found at a time we didn’t plan!

Love happens as it is destined to be and it decodes by itself effortlessly. Love is weird, love is funny. ❤
